DESCRIPTION

1NF0RM4T10N is a puzzle game, where users play as a hacker that is presented with the option to work for two different factions, the white hats (to help society) or the black hats (for self-gain). The game’s setting was created to look like a 1980s computer desktop. Players receive tasks from their chosen faction and work to complete the tasks to receive payment. These tasks come in the form of puzzles that the player must complete in a specified amount of time. There are multiple endings that the player can achieve, which are determined by their morality and the amount of money they earn.

CHALLENGES

The two largest challenges my group overcame was scope and team availability. When we first began to plan our project, we were overly ambitious and wanted to make something large that we could be proud of, but as the project progressed, we found it too difficult to meet all the deadlines for all the deliverables. This resulted in us having to re-scope and create a demo, rather than a full game. A large cause of this was team availability, being in third year and having more than one school project to focus on, unforeseen circumstances/emergencies in personal lives, and our small team size. These factors resulted in the necessary scale-down of the project.

SKILLS

The three areas I excelled and gained experience in was project management, playtesting, and documentation. The professor for this class enforced the importance of project management and the information that is important to document. I used both Jira and Trello to manage the project and run sprints weekly, and we used Google Drive to work on our document as a group. We created professional-level documentation including a game design document, playtest reports, and asset lists. This was also one of the first projects that we ran and completed official playtests, which gave the group a lot of insight to our game and reminded us to design for our players.
